Re: From David Albert's review of Krauss;'s universe from nothin

But then some of them say that the laws and such are not anyTHING, but only mathematical abstractions. (IMSkeptical has said that to me.) But isn't everything analyzed at a small enough scale that way? That goes in line with saying that physical laws are descriptive rather than prescriptive. my ess...

Re: The age old question

I wonder if Hinduism in some sense is closer to Christianity, in regard of suffering, not just because of theism (in the orthodox schools) but in seeing the world as a place of struggle whose goal is unity with the Godhead (in most branches of Christianity, community with the Godhead, though in Ort...

Re: From David Albert's review of Krauss;'s universe from nothin

I kind of like the downhome sound of "universe from nothin". Could be a good but nerdy country song. I don't see why physicists like Krauss don't discuss Kant on space and causality and so on; clearly there is a long tradition of understanding the laws of physics (and everyday phenomenology) as som...

Re: What is hell?

I think the major point, the bottom line to Christianity is to know God (this is just my theory I know I don't know God's ultimate purposes). seems to be God created a physical world because to crate free moral agents who will willingly choose the Good, he wants us to go thorough a process of seeking...

Re: Jesus’s name

Have you seen people using different words for Jesus’s Hebrew’s name? There is this whole sacred theology going on Yes I have seen that but they are mixed up. It comes from the name we take as Joshua it means Ywh (I abreviate the name) is salvation. Two forms of the name for Jesus in Hebrew, Yeshua...

Re: The age old question

My personal belief is that God (if there is something to which that label can refer) can't be overly concerned with human morality. Our concepts of good and evil, of helping your fellows or of stepping on them, of providing succour in hard times or letting people suffer alone, they don't matter muc...

Re: against Physicalism

How do you understand the term 'physical'? We took this up on Joe's blog but without much resolution. Maybe the term has more to do with a form of understanding and analysis than it does with a part or domain of reality, or all of reality for that matter. In other words, maybe it's an epistemic cat...
