Re: threat by Trumpie on face book
People are organizing to stand for minorities and the marginalized. I've heard of several new movements: the "Pantsuit Society" or something like that, and another group that has started wearing a large safety pin on their shirts to show they are a safe person for someone being harassed to ask for h...

Re: poll for the gang
To question 1, I would answer as I have in the past: I think your blog posts are too long, and that you'd get more readers if you broke them into parts and published them as a series: such as "Does Science Disprove the Soul? - Part 1" etc. To question 2, I would answer yes, more traffic here would b...

Re: Peter Krby's straw man argument: Josephus
Here's the comment I posted over there:
Jesus mythers among atheists seem very similar to young-earth Creationists among Christians. It just goes to show that this is a side of human nature that these atheists, for all their assertions of superior rationality, are not immune to.

Re: what is a reasonable doubt?
I understand that, but think that since the term did original come from the legal sphere, thinking about what it means in legal terms can be instructive. The legal definition is why I go with the lower standard "by a preponderance of the evidence" rather than "beyond a reasonable doubt." If faith i...

[ I don't use that term as a connection to court room evidence or forensics. I am thinking of historical standard. it's only reasonable that dobt should be based upon warrated assumptions, ego... Re: what is a reasonable doubt?
In legal terms, there are two different standards, depending on the type of case. "Beyond a reasonable doubt" is for criminal cases. There is a presumption of innocence, and if you have any reasonable doubt the person might be guilty, you are to find them innocent. In civil cases the standard is "a ...

Snopes on how "Xian" and "Xmas" are from the Latin for "Christ" and thus are not disrespectful towards Christ or Christians: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/xmasabbr.asp Yes I know. I think it's Greek, the Chi. but it's the way atheists constantly use it. I am not offended by met's use of ...

Re: help me keep intellectual standards high
I think it would be interesting if they did a similar experiment with rats to see if they'd exhibit the same behavior (not eating if it caused a shock to another rat) if the rats receiving the shocks were strangers . If the rats could, in effect, think "it's wrong to do this to any rat" and not just...

Re: help me keep intellectual standards high
I was reading that original article on whether animals know right from wrong, and really, I think they are making "pro-social behavior" synonymous with "morality." I think animals can and do show pro-social behavior, but whether they think (or are capable of thinking) of it in term of abstract "righ...
