Re: Guys, what do you suppose Tillich means here?

I'm not fond of all the name calling here but I'm perfectly happy to admit that I'm wrong about what Tillich means by "supernatural" if in fact that is the case. Now can you do the same? What exactly are you still mad about? I mean, if some of what I'm saying parallels your own essay in some respect...

Did he show a tendency towards self-aggrandizement? :P

Re: Magritte

Ahhh, spiced rum... brownest of the brown liquors.... what's that, spiced rum? You want me to - drink you? But, I'm in the middle of an internet argument about Paul Tillich! Hm, what's that? Oh.

You know what, spiced rum? You're right. Fuck the internet.

Re: Guys, what do you suppose Tillich means here?

Now that I'm back from my spiced rum bender - kids, never go on a spiced rum bender - let me re-address the matter at hand. Metacrock, I'm not saying that Tillich is some kind of atheist, that he's down on anything that you personally happen to label supernatural. However, he's very clear that for h...

Cheers! :ugeek:

Re: Guys, what do you suppose Tillich means here?

But the point is, Tillich seems to be explicitly denying that God makes "weird things" (to use your term) happen. Also, if I understand him correctly, he'd be as skeptical as I am of whether they happen at all.

Re: Guys, what do you suppose Tillich means here?

Then I think I understand Tillich correctly.

If Tillich understands God as operating in the world through experience rather than intercession, he'd take a dim view of your Catholic voodoo stories of lungs growing back.

Guys, what do you suppose Tillich means here?

Metacrock posted this Tillich quote on Carm: Dr. Tillich: Now you touch on a problem which underlies everything, the problem of natural and supernatural. It has innumerable implications and is very difficult to simplify. In this special case, I do not deny the visionary experience and the whole scen...
