Re: quqntum particles do not prove universe from nothing
O yes one other proviso Jim forgot to mention, you can't be trying to fuck up the reading. And by definition anyone daring to interpret it differently to modern Christianity has "fucked it up", right? there are exegetical techniques that enable interpretation, one has to go at it in a rea...

Re: The First easter
wrong. you are taking out of context. We are talking about Jesus on earth before he ascended that is not people going to heaven.,b we don't knokw what form he took after the ascension. Paul describes Jesus as the first fruits of the harvest, implying he expected all Christians to do what Jesus did ...

Re: quqntum particles do not prove universe from nothing
No, it's not about selective reading. It's about a non-literal interpretation, trying to understand the meanings of the sayings in the context in which they were said. The moral norms that are central to Christianity are not that hard to divine: love God, love others, charity, forgiveness. Jesus sp...

Re: quqntum particles do not prove universe from nothing
Pix, astonishingly, I agree with much of what you just said here. :) It's astounding to me that a set of writings like the NT - prob'ly the most anti-materialistic teachings from any of the spiritual traditions - could ever give rise to this extraordinarily materialistic society, or that anyone cal...

Re: quqntum particles do not prove universe from nothing
Well, what's the alternative? Should God have written a book telling us exactly what to do in every conceivable situation? Seems like we gonna be very, very old by the time we've memorized it and are ready to start living .... Clearly the only two alternatives we can possibly conceive is the Sermon...

Re: quqntum particles do not prove universe from nothing
What is reasonable about an "ought?" No "ought" has ever been (or can ever be) discovered or demonstrated to exist, so why do you assume there ever was one? Wouldn't some form of a-ought-ism be simplest and most elegant solution? If I'm wrong, please explain, from what branch of naturalistic reason...

Re: Dr Who and Religion
I appreciate this thrread is neary a year old, but I was on thiese fora then, so here is my belated response. Dr Who as messiah? As the centerpiece of the show, The Doctor operates like a monotheistic deity (i.e. Jesus Christ) who possesses incredible power, knowledge, and an uncanny ability to resu...

that's non sense. the body is renewed, it's clothes it;'s the body itself is better. you come out all clean and shiny(not literal). Paul is clear; flesh and blood do not get to go to heaven. You are not puttng on clothes on top of the flesh and blood; that would still be flesh and blood and would n...

Re: morality comes from God
The basic claim of this thread is that morality comes from God. Can anyone explain how that happens? This is what I was asking on the other threrad for six pages (so far!), and no one was able to say. To be clear, what I am asking is if you were presented with a moral question, what is the process y...

Re: quqntum particles do not prove universe from nothing
"Authority to his argument" or "meaning to his words"? No, no. The illusion of authority, the illusion of meaning. That depends on whether there really is a God who grounds good, love, joy, hope, etc. As ST points out, if you always frame your answers within atheistic assumptions, and you simultane...
