Re: News about Metacrock
Obamacare helps with the insurance problem here in the US, so that people can obtain care, but so far no one is really doing anything about the fact that medical costs themselves are out of control. I think as long as our elected representatives are in the back pockets of corporate executives, nothi...

Re: Dr Who and Religion
I don't know Scribe-world, but perhaps I should define what Sayers means by Story vs. Reading. The Story is the self-expression of the Author to the world. The Reading is what happens when the Story enters into and is entered into by beings other than the Author, who understand or try to understand,...

Re: Dr Who and Religion
As far as writing is concerned, QT, I found some excellent advice in Dorothy L. Sayers' The Mind of the Maker , where she compares the Trinity to the Author (Father), Story (Son) and Reading (Spirit). She said that in almost all books that get lost or fall apart, there's some problem with the centra...

Re: Necessary being does not entail Metacrock's God
Well, to say that the differentiation of self from other may never completely take place in women overstates the case, imo, but I agree with the overall point. I think people often harden their positions into caricatures of what they really are. it's easier to deal in shorthand and abstraction and ...

Re: Necessary being does not entail Metacrock's God
As the main supplier of estrogen on this board, this is an interesting topic to me, Met. Part of the thing about being a woman is that for most of history the chance to really have a voice or influence in the areas of philosophy and theology has been denied us. We have in response tended t...

Re: Dr Who and Religion
A number of superheroes have their origins in a story like this. Yes-- Clark Kent and Peter Parker, for a couple. :D Interestingly, I think the Dr. Who stories are less about the Doctor himself than about the people who travel with him, the humans who are, more or less, his "disciples." And that ca...

Re: Necessary being does not entail Metacrock's God
Many religions believe in a God which is more of an oversoul-- an impersonal force, rather than a personal consciousness. It seems to me like necessary being implies that there must be some sort of God, and that's all. I hope Metacrock is feeling well enough to explain further how the connection bet...

Re: Necessary being does not entail Metacrock's God
Metacrock says necessary being is "not a limit on the nature of God." I don't think he was saying that necessary being implies all attributes of the God he and I believe in.
