Re: why does religion excite hatred?
I never meant to treat you that way. You are one of the few on there I really respect. Thank you. And I never took any of it personally. Otherwise that beer offer would never have been made :) Sometimes you can be frustrating because it seems as though you don't let of things I find really obvious ...

Re: why does religion excite hatred?
I've heard it from so many people, Metacrock-- any Christian who doesn't agree with the owners of CARM on Christian doctrines, finds it a very unfriendly place. Why should you be any different? It's not your fault, it's CARM's. But I really think you'll have to find another "home" apologetics board...

Re: why does religion excite hatred?
I know that you didn't mean me. As I said in a different thread, I think it would be fun to have this discussion face-to-face over a beer. But you don't get the play the victim card in this situation. You know that this has happened before. Not once, not twice but many, many times over. To keep goin...

Re: why does religion excite hatred?
The problem I have with your tirade is that it's completely meaningless. Since I'm one of the people who you labelled as a butt-fucking queer and a syphillic asshole, I would think that, based on your standards, I should be able to spew some filth in return. Seems like that would be tit for tat. But...

Re: The skeptical Turn of mind
It seems, then, then your disagreement is with Plantinga. Whew. For a second, I was taking it personally
I would suggest reading through Rational Christian Warrant for he argument on why his viewpoint is correct. But, as a warning, it is dense reading.

Re: The skeptical Turn of mind
Zarove, I believe that Plantinga's point is the belief in God is rationally warranted only if God exists. Just as atheism is only rationally warranted if God does not exist. And if you go back far enough in this thread, the impetus for my quoting Plantinga was this quote from Meta. No I infur that G...

Re: The skeptical Turn of mind
KR, my interest in the quote has to do with the contention by Meta that rational warraent for belief provides a prima facie case, shifting the burden of proof to the atheist to demonstrate the non-existance of God. If Plantinga is right, then the lack of independence between the rational warrant and...

Re: The skeptical Turn of mind
I think you misunderstood the quote in a way. He appears to just be saying what I am saying, not that the truth content must be proven to be warranted, but that a warrant is a reason to believe, so a priori a warrant is linked to reasons to believe. and to truth content, that doesn't mean it has to...

Re: The skeptical Turn of mind
From Warranted Christian Belief, Plantinga, 2000 pg 191 And this dependence of the question on warrant or rationality on the truth or falsehood of theism leads to a very interesting conclusion. If the warrant enjoyed by belief in God is related in this way to the truth of belief, then the question w...

Re: The skeptical Turn of mind
Am I missing something here? This seems to me to be saying exactly nothing. Actually, the point is that when Meta talks about belief being rationally warranted, he is really assuming the existance of God. If there is no God, then there is no rational warrant. The triger to my post was this comment ...
