I guess the difference is maybe one of - taste? Humor? I mean, up to a point, I suppose I also would share your outrage, or in other cases it might just be so far out as to be laughable, and then in some cases it's just so pathetic that you end of pitying the person who thinks/feels a certain way. But whatever the reaction, the common recognition of absurdity remains.
