Israel is supposed to be a democracy, according to all the media fluff that declares it our democratic buddy in the Middle East. But it's a funny sort of democracy.

"A 2009 poll taken by the Israel Democracy Institute found that 77 percent of immigrants from the Soviet Union supported forcibly transferring the Palestinian population out of Israeli-controlled territory. Though [Yisrael Beiteinu party leader] Lieberman drew his support almost exclusively from the Russian-Israeli sector, there was no shortage of support for transfer among the broader Israeli public. Indeed, according to the poll, a narrow majority of Jewish Israelis supported transfer. An Israeli poll taken in 2004 found authoritarian attitudes to be widespread among Jewish Israeli youth, with only 17 percent listing democracy as a ``subject of national preference.`` " - Goliath, Max Blumenthal, pp. 23-24

I picked up a copy of Max's book on Friday. It's a difficult read - every chapter is like a splash of cold water in my face. It is brutal.

that's a cop out saying that it's supposed to be a democracy becuase the media says so. what did he UN charter say what does Isreal's constitution say?

It may be backward and barbaric to let a people set up a homeland for themselves, especially when they have to murder whole villages of other people to do it. Yet the UN approved.

Doesn't the whole ethnic nationalism thing make you queasy, though? Here's Max Blumenthal discussing the topic, and his new book -

I like his term for it - ethnocracy.

the carnation on the lepel. That's all very limited. Jews have gotten away with stealing Arab land all over Israel just by saying they claim it. Arabs lived on it for generations and they lose out because the Jews claimed it.
