I'd like to enter into more meaningful discussions about the structure of Islam as a religion and its historical roots and current manifestations. The elephant in the room needs to be addressed first, IMO, and actually presents a convenient launching point for journeying back to the foundations of Islam.
So as to not make this an entirely dreary affair, I've identified three podcasts that are useful as core material. This thread is specifically for the context of jihad, but later, or as ideas come up in discussion, I will spawn off other threads to journey back to the core.
Please, if you don't mind, listen to these. And also if you would oblige listen to them in this order. The third podcast is presented in three parts and the second part is specifically about the conflict in the Middle East but I think all three parts are very relevant so please listen to the whole thing.

A crucial takeaway from this podcast for me is the question that's posed "who has the authority to interpret the religion in our age".

A crucial takeaway for me is the juxtaposing of rejection of pacifism with denying just war.

And from this, I see a common theme throughout all three parts......but I think I'll hold onto revealing this for a little bit.
When you're done listening to all three then I will entertain responses.

My view and all. Hmmm...don't even know where to begin on that one. Even as a once upon a time Mod on AARM. Plus with being away so long writing. I'll just nod my head for a while, I think.Metacrock wrote: no problem buddy. you have your view you are welcome here, your view and all.
Time taken to breathe is time taken for peace.

The Isis guys want to kill Muslims who wear western clothe. Don't worry Sgt. Tom I wont ask. I understand most Muslims don't like them. That's all I need. but to proceed with discussion of Islam. Not to cancel discussion.Bettawoman wrote:My view and all. Hmmm...don't even know where to begin on that one. Even as a once upon a time Mod on AARM. Plus with being away so long writing.
