What are the reasons?
Moderator:Metacrock
After the recent attacks in Paris, many people are asking this question. I don't think it's endemic to Islam. This is not a thread about Islam but about the many factors contributing tto the rash of recent terroristic attacks. I think it's more directly attributable to fundamentalistic fanaticism per se and not peculiar to any religion. We saw it with Cromwell in Protestant England and Pol Pot, Stalin, etc. Fanaticism is finding the most receptive ground right now among Muslims just as it found its most receptive ground among European Christendom from the late MA's to early modern period. I'm sure the reasons are very complex issue. I'm not a historian or political scientist, just one of millions asking the same question right now.

Prophet Muhammad (God send peace and blessings upon him) is reported to have said, "God says 'I am as My servant thinks I am' " ~ Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol 9 #502 (Chapter 93, "Oneness of God")

Re: What are the reasons?
It's not like each attack is a spontaneous first time attempt. There's an ideology. On going thing that that took root way back probably 19th century. Excelorated by oil money and education and living in Europe.

That's more in line with what I wanted to explore. It goes back to the 18th century.Metacrock wrote:It's not like each attack is a spontaneous first time attempt. There's an ideology. The second link http://doxa.ws/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2725 (to the article by AbdalHakim Murad) is very relevant if you want to explore that timeline.Jim B. wrote:That's more in line with what I wanted to explore.
