fleetmouse wrote:So yeah, to get back to Meta's point - Vilenkin is saying that all these island universes DO have beginnings, absolutely - from big bangs of inflation in false vacuum. Certainly.

But if you look at the rest of what he's saying, trying to use his cosmology to support the idea that our universe is special and unique and created by God is completely retarded. Heck, according to him, our own island universe contains an infinite number of O-regions where Metacrock is a Christian and an infinite number where he smartens up and becomes an agnostic Taoist like me. And an infinite number of universes where Craig reads and understands the rest of Vilenkin's book and deconverts. :D

So I put the question before you, gentlemen and gentlewomen: is this an example of cosmological quote mining?

and we just happen to live in the only universe where Hal Jordon didn't blast that idiot to kingdom come with the Green Lantern Power ring!

can you exaplain why the statement you just makes any sense? How does that mean that the multi verse has always been and doesn't require necessary being?

why does this universe have to be unqie? why can't it also apply to all universes?

none of those theories actaully posit a non begining. but don't you understand that the Berkelian idealism changes everything?

Actually, it was Fleetmouse, and not myelf, who said that a multi-universe theory does not exclude God. Just to be fair. :)

What I said was that the article he posted a link to gave me no reasons to believe a multi-universe theory, as the only evidence it cited was anthropic evidence.

What's Berkelian idealism?

I see. yea Fleet is a pretty fair minded guy.

Berkelian idealism is my little idea about we are thoughts in the mind of God.
