Rebels invading Tripoli

I have been keeping tabs on the conflict for the last few months.. I am just curious how you think the aftermath of the war will come. Will it end up like Somalia, or a new dictator, or hopefully a republic (personal bias on republic of course).

I'm glad to see the revolution triumph. I bet will break into factions though. That's not a reason not to avert revolution.

If history is any guide, a compliant tyrant will be installed at the first opportunity and will be encouraged to rule with an iron fist until he too becomes inconvenient.

I have seen that as well. Though given that Gaddafi rose from a revolution himself, maybe they will be wary this time around. Moreover, that is a little on the cynical side. So far the ones in control are the Transitional council and the tribes. The worst I can imagine at the moment is someone like Putin. Ok scratch that. . . there are few leaders as scary as that man.

Also, wasn't Gadaffi inconvenient for at least 30 years, he only started to be "nice" to the West after Bush invaded Iraq (not that I am saying that move was called for, that was just a consequence).

ever see Woody Allen "Bananas?" They win the revolution and Woody says "now there will probably be a screwball dictator who will come to power to replace the screwbal we just took out." then the leader of the Rebels goes "everyone in this country who is under 16 is now 16 years old. all Citizens will wear underwear on the outside of their pants so we can tell if they messed in them."

Nicaraguan Revolution in 79 was not the case. They were a total exception. They forgave their enemies, they didn't' execute members of Somoza's national guard. They printed Bibles for the literacy campaign they gave human right organizations open access to everything. All the major human rights organizations agreed with were much more humane than the dictator they put out. Regan administration lied bout Sandinista authorities and all the major human rights organizations disproved those allegations.

Well, then there may be reason to hope.

I think they are getting to together reasonably well. I think it's hilarious that Gadaphi's daughter who was supposed to have been killed by American bombing in the 80s was proved to be alive. That's so Gadaphi. we are going to have to start a new phrase, when anyone does anything off the wall we'll say "that's so Gadaphi."

Maybe, though I fear that would be comparing the person with a murderous (and possibly insane according to some) dictator.
