Sure but competition isn't supposed to use coercion or force. Even in capitalist America there are antitrust laws - selectively enforced though they may be. This is why there's a bit of an outcry over, for example, the auto industry strong-arming Chris Christie to keep Tesla out of NJ.

On the other hand we can ask - has America ever really been less imperialistic than Putin is being here?

There was an American guy about 10 year ago, who made about a billion dollars on the dot.com boom - he was going around giving presentations, saying that the demise of the USSR was actually a bad thing, not only for the world, but even for the average American - as it provided an alternative and counterbalance against the excessive power of American capitalists.

As usual The Onion is the only news outlet with a cogent take on things.

It certainly seems to have brought the EU and US back together. NATO has finally found a purpose to exist again.

Good times.

I'm detecting a note of wistful yearning from the crazier side of the American right regarding Putin. Like, sigh, why can't we have a total badass leader like that? A guy who knows what he wants and takes it.

Definitely get that view from Fox. Though ironically whenever Obama even begins to sound like that, they call him a dictator. Then again, this is Fox News.

It doesn't help that his fascist monster of a wife advises people to eat fruits and vegetables.
